Rising Democratic star Caroline Gerard is reluctant to fall in love again after losing her husband. Can Republican playboy Jack McIntyre break through her grief and capture her heart? Told mostly in flashback and set against a chilling fascist backdrop, Dissident is a rollercoaster ride of political intrigue, passionate romance, and undying love.
Caroline faces the biggest challenge of her life when confronted with the cruelty and sadism of her captors at The Fed. Hope fades quickly, even as she holds onto her one last bit of sanity and her unshakable belief that her husband will rescue her. But is that faith just a mirage?
Reeling from her experiences at The Fed, Caroline tries to forge ahead and create a new identity. But that’s hard to do with the ghosts of the past constantly whispering in her ear. She is determined to find the rebellion and move on with her life, but what will she find when she arrives there?
Dissident (Bellator Saga #1)
This book was recommended by a friend. I don’t normally read dystopia but thought I would give it a try. I am so glad I did!
I am not usually into political type books, but this book grabs your attention and doesn’t let go. There is a way about the author that she doesn’t let you know too much too soon so you never get bored.
The story starts out kind of sad because of Caroline’s loss of Nicky. Seeing her girls are a constant reminder of him which I think keeps Caroline’s character very grounded.
Then there comes Jack McIntyre. How can you not hate his character right off the bat? What a jackass!! But then, once you begin to see his character open up and form, you fall head over heels in love with the two of them.
The story has a very good pace to it. The relationships between the characters build really well.
This story mostly builds the relationship between Caroline and Jack. They are very steamy, very sexy, and very much in love.
The book ends on a cliff hanger. There is some nasty stuff going on in the background. The president is shady as hell and the new America is about to drag Caroline and Jack through hell. How will their love survive?
A solid 5 star read!
Conscience (Bellator Saga #2)
This book I finished in just under a day. I could not put it down from start to finish. There is a huge range of feelings I got from this book.
Not only was I sad that Caroline and Jack got split up, but that Caroline had to take the force of nature that had become of the current President.
The President was assassinated and in his place was pure evil…Santos. This man can make your skin crawl and a little vomit to come up when he even shows his presence.
Caroline is left to endure some horrible atrocities because of him. She loses her friends, her family, her closest confidants for the sake of their secrets. Was it worth it? She is left with the guilt as those around her are picked off one by one because of her silence.
Where is Jack? Did he make it? What about the girls?
Some sad realities unfold right before your eyes. She is beaten, starved, and left in the dark; on a daily basis. How does she have the will to survive? How could she possibly have the strength?
Then, her guardian angels. On the brink of death, they get her out. No one thinks she is alive anyway so no one will miss her body. Who are they? And what do they want in return?
Bravo to the author! This story moves rather quickly and flips back and forth between past and present. There are so many points I wanted to reach through my reader and strangle to piss out of Santos and his goons!
This book ends of a cliffhanger and I HAD to have the third book or I was going to lose my mind.
Solid 5 star read and it isn’t for the faint of heart.
Sojourn (Bellator Saga #3)
I am currently only half way through this book…..
It picks up right where book 2 leaves off. Her guardian angles rescue her from hell. Her wounds are bad. They do the best they can for her and pray. Hope that is was enough.
Caroline is slow to recover. Once she wakes up, she wants to know what they heck is happening, where is she, who are these people? Once all her questions are answered, next is what do I need to do to get healthy?
The guilt continues to ravage her brain even as her body begins to heal. Where is Jack? These new guardian angels of hers not only saved her, but need her help to the underground. Is Jack there?
There is something brewing between Caroline and Gabe. She doesn’t want any part of it. Yet, she invites him to her room. She dreams of Jack every night and needs him to be there, but there is only Gabe. Will there be romance? Will they make it to California? Will she finally find Jack?
I will update my review once finished. It is already a 5 star review and I am sure the author can’t spoil it. Another magnificent masterpiece.
